National Doctor's Day has its roots in the United States back in 1933 when Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to celebrate her husband's profession by setting aside a day to honor physicians. The first Doctor's Day was observed on March 30, which marked the anniversary of the first use of ether anesthesia by Dr. Crawford W. Long in 1842. In 1990, Congress designated March 30th as National Doctor's Day, and President George H.W. Bush officially signed it into law the following year.
